About Shira

Shira Hanau is a staff writer at the Jewish Telegraphic Agency where she reports on politics, religion, and culture in the American Jewish community. She was named Rookie of the Year by the New York Press Association in 2018.

Her reporting interests center on New York's Orthodox Jewish communities, millennial Jewish expression, and Jewish culture and religion in the 21st century.

She was previously a reporter at the New York Jewish Week and her writing has appeared in the ForwardHarvard Divinity Bulletin, and Columbia Journalism Review.
